GRDC webinar: Crop rotations and root disease risk
October 16 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
A free webinar on Friday 16 October 2026 (starting at 2pm NSW time) will use root disease issues observed during 2026 to help growers and advisers assess paddock risk and plan rotations and disease management for 2027, particularly in the context of increased cereal-on-cereal production in NSW.
Topics include:
- Key soil-borne and root diseases from 2026
- Implications of increased cereal-on-cereal production for root disease risk
- How rotation, variety choice, paddock history and seasonal conditions influence disease risk
- How to recognise when a paddock may be developing a root disease problem
Speakers:
- Brad Baxter, NSW DPIRD
- Dr Kirsty Owen, UniSQ
- Dr Lisa Kelly, QLD DPI
- Dr Steven Simpfendorfer, NSW DPIRD
The session will also cover testing and diagnostics, management options when rotation choices are limited, and how to use the period between harvest and sowing to identify high-risk paddocks and plan ahead.
