Economic thresholds – Helicoverpa in podding pulses

Enter an estimate of:

  • control cost per hectare (include both product and application)
  • crop value per tonne

and adjust the row spacing if required to receive a break even threshold (where the benefit in saved yield is equal to the cost of the control measure).

For convenience, this is presented in both larvae per metre row and larvae per square metre (for crops not on 1 metre row spacings).

Note: This threshold assumes a population of one larvae per square metre will cause a yield loss of 35 kg/ha for mungbeans, 40 kg/ha in soybeans, 67 kg/ha in navy beans and 20 kg/ha in chickpeas. The Beatsheet also has a more detailed threshold (that considers larval size) for helicoverpa in chickpeas.
